Last Saturday, I was a bit nervous the whole day. Nah, not because of the standby...nothing will happen lah. Its because on Sunday, I would be meeting a long time idol of mine - Robbie Fowler, the former Liverpool striker. He was so good that his adoring fans called him 'God', a fact that he is embarrashed of. Well, I wouldn't go as far as calling him 'God' but he was a real favourite of mine since breaking into the Liverpool first team at the age of 18. I was gutted to see him leave Liverpool for Leeds in 2001 and was so glad that he came back to Liverpool in 2006 for the "second coming". Well, his age (35) has caught up with him now and he is now plying his trade in the Australian League with the North Queensland Fury. He was here in Singapore with his new Aussie team for a friendly with our S-League's Tampines Rovers. The unofficial fan club, East of Anfield had managed to arrange a brunch with Fowler and I was not going to miss this 'once in a lifetime' opportunity to be up closed to my idol.
The session was brief but awesome. Fowler was in his elements and was witty with all his answers throughout the Q&A. Well, he's a scouser, isn't he? Hahaha. After the Q&A, I was well chuffed that I happened to be the first few in the queue for the photo taking cum autograph signing. I certainly didn't have to wait too long to be so close to my long time idol :) He duly signed my book (his autobiography hardback) and my old Liverpool top (of season 1995/1996), before having a picture taken with me. It made my day!!! Didn't matter that he was not playing later that day (he was having a niggle). Not icing on the cake but I could rejoice, for I had met 'God'
